The silver-breasted broadbill (Serilophus lunatus) is a species of bird in the broadbill family, found widely in Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Thailand, and Vietnam. It occupies a range of natural habitats, from subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests and moist montane forests, as well as semi-deciduous forests and even agricultural land and gardens. They are non-migratory resident birds.
They are fairly small in size, with a silky smooth-feathered appearance that is pale below and a warm soft brown above. They also have a black crescent above the eye and a glossy blue patch on the dark wings. They are typically found in small flocks, and utter a fluid tee-lee cry.
The silver-breasted broadbill eats invertebrates, primarily insects and their larvae, including grasshoppers, mantises, caterpillars and small land snails. These insects are trapped by swooping down from the air or by gleaning branches and foliage. Although the species has declined somewhat due to habitat loss, it is not yet threatened with extinction.
