Wildlife photographer Peter Ong takes the reader on a journey through the various terrain of Peninsular Malaysia - from the urban parks of Kuala Lumpur to the montane cloud forests of the Central Forest Spine, to the tip of the ancient Nakawan Range which borders Thailand - in search of the twelve species of primate found on the peninsula. Peter introduces the reader not just to the primates and the terrain, but also to the communities who live with and the work towards conserving our closest living relatives in the natural world. This travelogue and photography book aims to shed more light on the shy primates that can be found here and brings the reader on an adventure of discovery through the landscapes of Peninsular Malaysia.

Malaysia is listed as one of the planet’s mega-biodiverse nations of which there are only 17. It also has the second-highest number of non-human primate species in Asia with at least 25 species on record so far.
For the very first time, a complete compilation of Peninsular Malaysia’s 12 species of non-human primates are captured in their emerald-hued natural environments by photographer and storyteller, Peter Ong. The reader will be brought on an exploratory journey, not just to get to know these shy primates, but also to learn more about the unique habitats they call home - from the 130-million-year-old montane rainforests of the Central Forest Spine to the dense lowland forests, carrying on further to the edges of the mysterious mangrove swamps, as well as the semi-deciduous limestone forests in the north.
His visual and written chronicles paint out a different experience of the peninsula - one that is only known to the myriad of wildlife that also call this ancient land ‘home’.

Each book contains 188 pages with a total of 94 printed images.
The publication also features reprints of the earliest watercolour paintings of four species of primates in Peninsular Malaysia made in 1803 which Wiliam Farquhar, the British Resident of Malacca in 1803, commissioned. The original watercolours are in the National Museum of Singapore's possession and are reproduced exclusively for this publication with permission.
